Missing Ethernet Network Adapter Icon

I am working with windows xp
Connected wired(ethernet)
Now i am struggling with network connection problem
when i checked in Control Panel-->Network Connection options i found that there is no LAN icon displayed
And the "NETWORK ADAPTER ICON" is missing in Device manager
Couldnt get ip address also
anyone please tell me what should i do to connect to internet and to get the network adapter icon

Enter your device manager, and ensure that it shows your network card. If it doesn't, check the physical connection of the card (if you are using an add-in card), or that it is set to be used in the BIOS.
If it does show it, try right-clicking and uninstalling it, then restarting your computer.
