What are the problems with this build?

CPU: i5-2500K
Motherboard: AsRock Z77 Extreme4
Memory: Corsair XMS3 2x2GB
Storage: Crucial 128GB M4 SSD
GPU: Sapphire HD7870 2GB GDDR5 OC
Case: Fractal Design Define R3
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX500V2

This build is just for BF3 and general computer use . Overclocking & SLI = Yes. I'm going to be playing at 1080 and on hopefully high settings. I will add a second gpu later.

My concern is whether I've chosen a good mobo because all I really need is SLI and LAN

I would go for the 3570K instead, and be sure to get a CPU cooler if you plan to overclock.

If you plan to get a second 7870 later, get a bigger PSU.

OK makes sense. Any thoughts on the motherboard because there are quite a few other good 1's for around £100

Agree with Deemo13 on the i5-3570K. The z77 motherboard would be wasted on a Sandy Bridge CPU.

The motherboard is fine. It's currently the best in its price range.

I have a 3570k/extreme 4 z77/ sapphire 7870. Just an FYI after the update to 12.11 I am normally stuck at 60 fps with everything ultra and 2x aa.

You probably have vsync on or something.
October 23, 2012 11:47:04 AM

Yeah I do. My point was it performs well. If I have vsync off I get awful tearing in everything. I have been forcing vsync on/triple buffering and running an fps limiter at 60.

^Any overclock on that? Planning to get a 7870 for myself soon. (System got fried woot

Anyways, @OP, you may want Corsair Vengeance or G.Skill Ares RAM. I dont like the XMS series. Change that SSD to a Samsung 830 or OCZ Vertex 4 if you can.

Oh okay.
Consider buying a 120Hz monitor. Your fps cap w/o tearing increases to ~120. :)

I have overclocked it to 1150/1350 on stock voltage, but I only game on stock.

The 7870 is a very quick card.

ok im changing the cpu to to the 3570k and i'll upgrade the psu down the line if i actually do think about purchasing a 2nd GPU

i'm ordering in the next few hours so if there's any other thoughts you have about this build please speak

It's easier if you re-post the revised build, hun. :)
