I've been searching for a decent inexpensive LCD. I was considering ordering either a Viewsonic VP171, Hyundai (the one in the review), or a Benq FP. I went to a local store and a different Viewsonic model (than I was considering)looked darker at the top of the screen and lighter at the bottom. In addition, one of their models also had significant shadows around icons. The Hyundai LS (the model similar to the Q17 but with speakers) also had a screen that was darker at the top than at the bottom and the display just didn't look that great (of course in that store maybe they just hadn't adjusted it properly). I still haven't seen the BenQ model. I am now reluctant to order online without seeing the LCD monitor with my own two eyes. I think the specs can all seem great in theory but there is no substitute for seeing how the model looks with your own two eyes. When I was in several stores the Sony models all seemed to have a bit of a blurry or dark display. The Viewsonics had a sharp display but seemed to have a problem with too dark at the top and the shadows on one model were horrible. I went to the control panel so I would have a relatively white background to see if one part was darker than the other. In addition, by doing so I could see how the text looked and if there were shadows around the icons. In the stores I went to the Samsungs seemed to have the best overall display. I am now considering the Samsung but wish I could see a BenQ 17" next to a Samsung to compare them. Anyone have a 17" BenQ or sSamsung with a a response time < 16ms? If so, how do you like your monitor? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. The BenQ monitor I was considering only has an analog input. Since I only have an analog video card if the monitor looks great I don't think the DVI input would be a big factor to me at the current time. Although, I will surely want a DVI output Video card in a future computer upgrade.
