Is gold plus certified worth the money?

I am shopping for a PSU in the 900W range and I am wondering if the 80 plus platinum, gold, silver and bronze have any effect on actual machine performance or if it is just for power efficiency. Any recommendations are appreciated as well. Thank you in advance.

So, now that you've built your $1500 gaming Ferrari...... what kind of gas are you going to use? Will you rob the life of your new car with low end 87 octane or fill it with premium?
I'm not saying you need 100 or 103 Octane gas..... but do you see where I am going with this?

A quality 750watt PSU will handle that fine with 2 x HD7870. You have a budget for the PSU?

I would like to stay under $150. Thank you skit I understand what you are saying, does the gold rating mean cleaner power in any way or is it safer for your system? Also I use a lot of usb peripherals would that affect recommended total wattage?
