I have a reference design 7950 so the fan gets quite irritable at 50%+ fan speed. I went into msi afterburner and made a profile for the fan that was it never goes above 50% fan speed, doing so the temperature gets a bit high. I've tried many games (sleeping dogs, gta 4 etc) and it never goes above like 85-87C. Is that OK? Should I be worried about damage when playing games at that temp?

that should still be acceptable, even for prolonged usage. Just keep an eye on it, the cooler will fill up with dust eventually and the temps will start to rise...

That's pretty warm, I would consider changing the fan to change those temperatures or making sure your case has proper airflow.
