driver download problem

I just tried to download 2 driver updates for windows xp
home edition. after the download all the images were
huge, but I clicked on restart computer anyway. Now, the
computer restarts, but the monitor is completely
blank!!! I know it is running, I can hear it and I did
ctrl p and got something to print. Please help!!!

On startup of the PC, press F8 and select Last Known Good Configuration.
Once you are in to XP, use System Restore to return to the point before you
installed the video update.

Or go to the website of the videocard manufacturer, download and install
their latest graphics drivers.

If you cannot get in to Last Known Good, or it returns the same result
(black screen), restart, use F8 and select Safe Mode.... again, use System
Restore or get the correct graphics card driver.
