Do you think my CPU was damaged?

Hi,
I started my first build yesterday and put the CPU on top of the motherboard carefully, but when I used the lever to lower the latch, the latch fell down on the CPU. Considering that the CPU was already in place when I dropped it, is it likely that the pins on the mobo are damaged? I dont want to take off the CPU fan to check and I cant run a test boot because I dont have my PSU yet. But is it likely that there is damage or will the CPU work. Its an Intel i5 2500k in LGA1155 socket on gigabyte ud5h mobo. THanks!

Newer Intel CPU's don't use pins, but balls, I think. You should be fine, assuming it was just the latch that fell on it. No promises though, it all depends on how hard the latch fell. I'm not that worried.

Get that PSU soon, then you'll no. If it boots, it's fine!
