Heyo! I plan on building a laptop decent (and a little beyond) for gaming. However, my last laptop had an onboard graphics card that certain games (mainly from Steam) couldn't detect. Say that I were to build an NVIDIA graphics card onto my laptop, would it then be able to detect that rather than having the inability to detect the graphics card?

More than likely, the Steam games didn't find something like say a hardware T&L engine or a specific pixel shader model version that a game needed to run. You would have a far better chance of games working on a laptop with a dedicated GPU as opposed to some kind of integrated video chip.
