Help! Can anybody owning a 75GXP tell me if they are reliable or if they seem to be problematic and in what way?

Lets just say there is a lot of talk about a "Class Action Lawsuit" with IBM over that series of drive.

I've had (2) 30g IBM 75GXPs in a RAID0 since december/jan with no problems. But I've heard stories about sudden failures and such.

Ok, mine is a Hungarian 75GXP 45GB, but why isn't it dying? I want it to go kaput so I can get a RAID array, and no way in hell am I getting another 75GXP!

U got a problem?! Then dial 1800-328-7448!

LOL!

That's the first time I've ever heard someone wish that a hard drive would die!

But ... I'm kinda waiting for both of mine to die, too. I've running one that is a RMA replacememt, and it needed low-formatted formatted within a week. It's been okay since then, but I'm holding my breath.

My primary drive had bad sectors on it when it came from the factory, but a normal format cleared that up, and it's been fine for six months. But just in case, I like to image the active partition every couple of weeks, just to stay up-to-date if it ever decides to freak out, too.

If they would just go ahead and die, I'd convince myself to spend the money and drop in a RAID card and run three drives ... maybe a few of those new 80GB Maxtor D740X-6L 7,200 RPM ATA-133 drives, with the fluid dynamic bearing motors.

That sounds really good to me, ya know? I'd go ahead and do it if I wasn't such a cheap bastard. ;-)
