What is the cheapest rig that can run planet side 2 at decent settings and frames?
Budget is $400 ish, also i've heard that AMD CPU's work terribly with this game.
Any help will be appreciated.
(please don't tell me to get an i7 with a 680, i already would have if i could *** out money:p)

Well, im not really buying a Hard drive or Os or a disk drive, i have spare ones, so i only need to buy a case, gpu, cpu, mobo, psu and ram.

The minimum requirements don't seem like they can run the game at all, i dont know why SOE put it there, and how will that APU system perform in 720p?

lol HD 7770 costs the same as gtx 650 and performs better than gtx 650
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/536?vs=681
and it will be able to do 1080p in Ultra or almost highest settings
So what i have ended up with

CPU - Intel i3 3220 - 130$

Mobo - MSI H77MA-G43 - 83$

GPU - MSI R7770-PMD1GD5 - 120$

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145278 - 33$

PSU - Corsair CX 500w - 60$

Case - CM elite 430 - 60$

Total - 475$ (I know its over your budget but it will perform good even in 1080p)
(Everything is taken from NewEgg)

OR

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE - 100$

Mobo - MSI 990XA - 120$ (lol its more expensive than CPU)

Cooler - CM hyper 212 evo - 35$

Total - 515$
But you will be able to OC it and you will get a lot better performance

So, can this setup run Planetside 2 well at 720p?
i3 3220($125)
EVGA GTX 650 (getting a deal for $70 otherwise I'd go with 7770)
Thermaltake TR 500W PSU ($40)
Crucial Ballistix 4gb ram ($24)
Biostar H61MHV ($55)
UltraXblaster V2 case ($30)
= $345 plus tax.
How will it do?

dont bother playing it on a low end rig!!!!
you wil suck so bad it will be torture
make sure u spend as much as possible on cpu.
get i5 for 200 and get a used video card like a 460gt on kjiji for 60 bucks

u can always lower graphic settings to ease the pain on gpu but u cant get rid of the hundreds of player causing the frames to drop on cpu

dont get amd cpu to play as its horrible.
older intel cpu's like 8400 quad core 2 duo sucks as well
get i5 k and overclock! U WONT REGRET IT!

Either go with an i3 2xxx series chip or change that board out for a B75,H77, orZ77 board. That H61 might require a bios update to run a 3220. Do you have a microcenter nearby? Otherwise, @ 720p it will be just fine.

OP's budget is only about $400. They cannot afford to spend half their budget on a cpu.

It's playable at 1080p on an A10-5800K with fast RAM. Although Richland will be out soon and that will run it even better. I have shadows on low and everything else on medium. Get an A10-6800K when it comes out with 2133 MHz RAM.

Mhhhh, i was thinking that originally, but i dont know if its coming out the 19 of this month or June, and
are you sure it can run well on 5800k? i can get that with 2133mhz ram and overclock the A10 to 4.5 but how will it hold in big battles? How much fps do you get?

Well, actually, if i get 2133 mhz ram and a motherboard that supports 2133, it'll equal about $340-350.
Instead, i can get an i3 3220 and a gt 640 2gb (found a sale for $60), and im pretty sure a GT 640 is better than HD 7660D, so thanks for all your support guys, found a nice build....

yeh the reccomended system specs is what we in the ps2 community refer to as minimum.

add to that its horribly optimized. right now the best performance you will see is an I5 3570k oced.

ps2 its better to put the most money into ur processor. if you are just playing that game get a great processor and a cheaper gpu. with an i5 and sometimes an 8350 and a 7790 gpu, iv seen people play on high in large battles with 30+fps

REMEMBER in THIS PARTICULAR GAME you need THE BEST gaming cpu you can afford to even have a sporting chance at smooth gameplay. my old core 2 duo 2.4 freezes for 2 seconds every 5 steps i take in a large battle

also yes amd cpus do not perform well in ps2 compared to i5s. 6350s and below drop into the teens and tens in large battles. 8350 not sure but this game is a very badly optimized game which places the entire load on ONE CORE. so you need the strongest cpu core for core, which we all can agree is intels i5

I know this might be an older thread but i just wanted to say that an AMD cpu will work wonders for this game. I am currently running a FX 6300 paired with an older sapphire radeon hd 6670 and I get pretty good FPS with medium graphic settings. Here is the list of all the parts in my build beware it is a budget system costing around $500 including OS.

CPU AMD FX 6300
Video Card Sapphire Radeon HD 6670
Motherboard Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
RAM 4gb DC ADATA Gaming series RAM
PSU Corsair Builder Series 500 watt
OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I'm running 40-60 FPS on optimized Ultra settings at 4068x1024 (bezel corrected 3840x1024, it's almost 3K).

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T @3.6GHz (overclocked)
GTX 760 2GB OC
8GB DDR2 719MHz (overclocked)

Your CPU should be faster than mine, and your GPU is about 77% as fast as mine.
Disable hyperthreading and you'll get much higher per core performance, the game only uses 1 or 2 cores iirc.
