Hi internet,

So I recently bought a Gainward Phantom GTX 660 Ti to replace my old Sapphire HD 6850. I started using the 660 Ti, played Far Cry 3 and didn't notice much of an improvement unfortunately. A few days later my new PSU which is an OCZ Fatality 750w arrived and once I hooked that up into the system and started playing, I was amazed to see that I was now getting much better performance for some reason. Specially in areas where I used to drop below 40 fps now they are a constant 55-60.

I did not know that PSU's had any effect on gaming performance. Anyone care to shine some light on this? Could my old 500w HEC Raptor have been holding my system back? :heink:

My system specs are listed below. Cheers! :)

Phenom 2 x4 B55 @ 3.8Ghz
Biostar TA890FXE
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz 2x4
Gainward Phantom GTX 660 Ti
OCZ Fatality 750w
WD Caviar Blue 500Gb

Hmm, It shouldn't have increased your performance - I would look at other changes that happened.

That being said, your old graphics card (EDIT: erm, power supply) is not of a reliable brand - it might not have been supplying enough power for the system to run at full, just for it to boot and run on idle.
