Phenom II x4 965 BE vs Phenom II x6 1045T for budget gaming

Hello all. Just a quick question. Since it appears that more and more games are taking advantage of more cores, does the x6 1045T outpace the 965 BE?

I can get either CPU for $99.99 from Tigerdirect and they will be paired with a CM Hyper 212 Plus and an AM3+ mobo.

Is the OC'ing headroom different? Does the extra 2 cores make up the speed difference? Is lower clock speed + 6 cores or higher clock speed + 4 cores better?

I'm an intel user, I haven't touched an AMD build since 2005.

  1. Faster X4 is going to game better than a slower X6. It is as well easier to overclock the 965BE.

Just needed to hear it from someone who knows what they're talking about. Thanks.

EDIT: This is the build I was going for for my friend. I wish I could get 8gb RAM, but it's over double what I payed for my 8gb

The total price is $497.62 after taxes ($500 budget).
  3. $20 difference in the HDD's and the code was already applied. Budget is $500, not a penny more. He also has a 1TB (I think) external HDD for storage.
