I've recently been rebuilding my system and have decided it's time for a GPU upgrade. I'm currently running two GTX285's in SLI. I've decided to put the money forth and go for an upgrade. I have around $1000 to do so. Based on everything I've read at the moment the hot card seems to be the GTX690. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600030348%20600315498%20600328254&IsNodeId=1&name=GeForce%20GTX%20690&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-VideoCards-_-VGA-_-GTX690) I've been a NVIDIA guy ever since the first computer my parents had ran ATI with just mountains of problems. Since I built my first gaming PC I've always gone NVIDIA, but recently all of the reviews I've been reading of ATI have been pretty good so I'm considering a change.

So my question basically centers around this, I have a gaming PC running a Core i7 with enough power so that I that could easily handle a GTX 690. Is that the card the community would recommend or should I be considering other options?

I wouldn't recommend buying the GTX 690, in three years time you'll regret the decision of putting so much money into a component that has quickly become obsolete to newer generations.

Simply get the GTX 680 and overclock it. You save a bunch of money, and in a couple years you could easily get another 680 for SLI.
