Go for 750 W or 850 W?

should I go for a 750 W or 850 W?

It will be used for 3D rendering and editing (and some gaming), and will therefore most of the time be used 100 %

Hi - 750 is way more than you need, so I wouldn't go higher.
A quality brand is much more important than the tot wattage.

I would think a quality 550w unit would be sufficient.
The GTX660ti needs only a 450w psu assuming other normal components. A GT640 does not need a auxiliary 6 pin connector, and is powered only by the slot which maxes at 75w.
Nothing wrong with 750w, the psu will consume only what it needs, regardless of it's maximum capability.

If you go too large, it will run inefficiently.
If you cut it too close, the psu will run at max and be both inefficient and noisy.

A quality 650 unit sounds about right to me.

Let's see, a PSU is most efficient at around 40-50% load. 8350 pulls around 150W, 660 ti is around 200W, add in the rest of your system and it pulls around 400W. These numbers may not be accurate and you may actually pull less. I recommend a 750W PSU.

I'd go for a decent 650W to 750W model due to the rest of the system, but the 660 Ti only pulls about 150W in gaming.

Like many said, a 650W quality psu will do just fine, you don't need 750W, even at full load with the 660 ti and 640 gt and the rest of the stuff you won't pull more than ~400W, you can go with less, my suggestion goes for those :

until now, I've been looking at some modular Corsair PSU's, I'm open to any manufacturer, I guess I don't need the gold plus badge, so I'm considering the XFX P1-650X-XXB9 as well as the corsair TX650M

I would go with whatever is cheaper, pretty much the same quality but I think the XFX is more modular.

I'd go with the XFX 650 xxx edition, it's a seasonic unit, the TX650M is a CWT psu and the xfx is cheaper, so get the xfx.
