So, I am somewhat of a gamer... and I am looking to build a beast of a machine which will last me for the next five years or so.

I am focusing primarily on the graphics card, the processor and the motherboard. :-)

My range is ~$700 - $800.

I would keep your video cards for the time being there is nothing 2 6850s cant MAX. Really i would just wait a generation or so for most of the upgrades you seek. For the time being a new monitor and a nice SSD would go a long way. Get a nice 1080 120hz peice ( there is a bitchen acer or asus for 250 with a 2ms refresh rate id look at that) and a nice Vertex 4 or Samsung 830/840. They will both last you a long time and provide a nice boost to a slightly old, although still pretty bitchen rig.

I agree with everything that you've said, however... my motherboard is lacking. It only supports one Radeon 6850 at x16, and the other at x4. Also, it is starting to fail on me. I think it is time for a new one; more specifically, an 1155 model w/ a quad-core Ivy Bridge processor to boot.
