Graphics for long-term buy

I want to replace my 8600 GT. I have chance to buy GTX460/7770. which one is better for long-term buy?

I can buy those cards for 100$... I know, that new Nvidia drivers give boost to Nvidia cards. I want to know, how effective AMD driver updates are?

AMD is just fine. I just switched from Nvidia to AMD and it's pretty much the same. Maybe the Nvidia has an edge over AMD but I find AMD cards easier to configure and overclock and stuff.

Amongst those two choices, go for the GTX 460.

(A 6870 will be a better choice though, better than both of them)
