If a person was to use a corporate's win7 key to upgrade to windows 8 online with credit card without the knowledge of the corporate in india what can happen?can that person be traced or what can happen if that person is unaware that the key on his/her win 7 belongs to a corporate etc?

why don't you just acknowledge the company about this change and just do it?

the key may have been taken from the sticker on the back of the laptop.the company is not using it and may be using a previously released OS.should the person stop using the key and get a fresh one?the thing is say that he paid via credit card to upgrade and now don't know the implications of doing that.

mine was used too many times so i called microsoft told them i was "defective" and they gave me a new one, just gotta be real nice

it's ultimately up to the company administration that keeps hold and track of the corporate licenses - it's a LOT of work to determine if someone that doesn't work for the company has used the key, very unlikely you will get cought and prosecuted for stealing if you infact did.
the worst that can happen is the key doesn't work because it's been deactivated, and you're forced to purchase one.

yeah... the person just gave me a key for free and it was completely legal, just always be nice and call back a few times to try and find that nice person

i advice you to tell them as panicmaster said really nicely and easily tell them that you didnt know
