GTX 550ti or GTX 280 SLI?

Two gtx 280 can sometimes beat a single stock gtx570 but at much higher power consumption and heat. I own two gtx280 already and in some situations they are hard to beat especially in openGL apps.

Hello, I currently have a GTX 550 ti in my system along with 8GB of DDR3 RAM at 1600 and a i3 2120. I saw an ad for 2 GTX 280's for only $80 from a price point this is a steal, right? But would 2 GTX 280's in SLI outbest my one GTX 550ti that I currently have?

In your case, I would stick with what you got - or put that $80 towards a single card to replace your 550Ti

If you don't care about power consumption/DX11 and trust that the cards are not going to break, then I'd jump on that. The 280 is better than the 550 and you'd have two of them.

I think that selling the 550 TI and getting a Radeon 7850 would be a better way to go, but if your PSU can handle two 280s and you don't mind the huge power consumption, then go ahead. $80 is a good price.
