All the D70 named program modes (Portrait, Landscape, etc.) should be tagged
as sRGB (since they all use color modes I or III), but if you had already
selected color mode II (which tags as Adobe RGB) but then SWITCHED to any
named program mode, the Adobe RGB tag was mistakenly saved with the image
instead of sRGB, which threw off color management from then on. Apparently,
this has been corrected.

I think I'll wait for the hacked one, because I never shoot JPEG
anyway, and don't use the custom color mode setting.

Minor bug fixes aren't worth the download.
The hacked one will add the following features:
Max shutter to 1/16,000th
iTTL flash sync to 1/8,000th or 1/16,000th
ISO 50
ISO 100
ISO 3200
ISO 6400
RAW+F (Fine jpeg instead of basic)
Separated RGB histogram.
Separated RGB blown highlights display.
Audio 'space for 5 shots remaining on CF' alarm.
Max zoom on LCD to go to 100% instead of stopping at 65%
Unlimited apeture/shutter speed shifts when in program mode (one or
two stops isn't enough).
Ability to downsize individual RAW's into Fine or Basic JPEGs within
camera to save space.
There is some talk of a mirror lock-up feature, but others say this
won't be possible.

Are "they" taking requests?
Probably because I haven't used an SLR before, I find it slightly confusing
when switching between shutter-priority and apperture-priority to remember
to switch which dial (front or rear) to use for controlling the setting
under my control. I'd like to see a custom setting that allowed the rear
dial to control the "thing under user control", e.g.:
Mode Rear Dial
P adjusts program mode
A selects aperture
S selects shutter speed
This would allow custom setting 10 (where you don't have to press the "+/-"
button to dial in exposure compensation) to be more intuitive/useful since
the front dial would always be free to adjust EV.
If desired, custom setting 14 could still flip the front and rear dials,
and in manual mode ("M" ) one would have to control shutter and the other
aperture.

| Owamanga!
Theoretically, where could one find this hack if it were to be made available?

On many dodgey websites.
It's not available yet, and half the features I want will never
appear. But, a group of people are actively investigating this and
roughly, here's what we have so far:
We know there is lots of available space on the camera's flash memory
that is not currently being used by firmware. This is good, because
new functions will need more programming space in which to reside.
We know that there is no checksums (a simple anti-hacking tool) on the
firmware that deals with the UI (the one most likely to be needing the
hack), someone has done a simple hex mod to the menus and re-flashed
his D70 without issue.
We can see evidence of other capabilities (such as the faster shutter
speeds) that have been disabled in the firmware prior to release. In
theory, reversing this would be fairly easy.
We know the D70 uses RISK processor and the OS is REALOS/FR by
Fujitsu. An SDK is available.
Other features people are asking for are:
A PURE RAW (uncompressed/lossless) mode.
Black & White mode.
Distance information from lens to be stored in EXIF
Data from external GPS system to be stored in EXIF (Whatever..)
Nobody has asked for a MAME port yet (so you can play old arcade games
on it) but that's only a matter of time.
