What is the maximum operating range (distance) allowed to maintain the full transmission speed?

The answer is "Depends". Need more details, walls in between? What are they made of? What wireless standard? What equipment is used? Network standards are pretty well defined, but there is equipment out there that can increase range though boosters, extenders, directional antennas, etc...

It was a question on a lesson plan for my CST class. And after days of struggle I thought I'd try this.

Unless the question had some other part before that told you what wireless standard they are talking about, and what environment it's in, it's impossible to answer.

It's like asking "How fast do you need to drive to get there in 10 minutes" without telling you where you are going.
