hey everyone, I just need some advice on my new ( and first ) gaming pc. Iv got a budget of roughly 800$ :( . I already have some parts such as the monitor, mouse, keyboard, hdd. And so was wondering if the rig i was planning on building would be any good at resolutions of 1680x1050, or maybe 1920x1200.
I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, I just joined this site today, and therefore really don't know if i am doing things right. Anyways the build will be
listed below, any recommendations would be great as well as any thoughts on the current build. I would like to know if it would perform well on games such as, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim, and Shogun 2 total war on the above resolutions. I am willingly to switch to a AMD processor if it will do me any good.

the build
Intel Core I5-3570k ( I have no plans on overclocking for now, maybe just the turbo mode it has.)
8gb of ddr3 ram 1600 dual channel
AMD Radeon 7850 2gb PCI express
MSI b75-MA-e33 motherboard (I really am clueless of motherboards)
PSU is a Antec Neo 620w
case is a thermaltake V3 black edition

Anyways any advice, comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Your graphics card is going to be the single most important component in determining gaming performance

Spend more on that and less on a processor IMO
For 1080P resolution

AMD FX 6300
Asus M5A99X motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131874
2 x4 gig of 1600 Mhz RAM rated for 1.5 volts or less
Radeon 7950
650watt psu at a great price
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371044

This will game better in intensive DX 10 and 11 games like BF3
It will game a little worse in older DX 9 games like Skyrim

Thank you for your help, it is appreciated, but i do have a question about the FX-6300 (piledriver right?) do you think it would last me until at least 2014 with the radeon 7950 at my resolutions? I guess im willing to push out another 100$ if necessary for anything else.

If you want to stick to the 3570k, get a Z77 motherboard. A good one would be the Asrock extreme4 z77 mobo. The reason for this, over the B75 mobo you selected, is so you can overclock later on once you've decided you want a little more oumph.

The 7850 is plenty for 1080p gaming right now and you can always upgrade that a lot easier than you could upgrade your processor.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was considering boosting my budget by a further 150-200$ hard to say tho because I am just a college kid without a job. If I do get the i5 3570k then I will get a Z77 motherboard, and maybe with the budget boost manage to get a radeon hd 7950. However if i do get a AMD cpu I was thinking a FX-8320 would be a bit more future proof, if not the FX-6300. Regardless thanks everyone :)

Don't say that an AMD processor will be future-proof. To be honest for gaming it's struggling to be now-proof.

hello there thank you for taking your time to post. The i5 3570k would be future proof tho right? Considering it can be overclocked to around 5ghz given it has the sufficient cooling systems purchased with it (tho its not something i plan to do anytime soon). This is just my first gaming PC tho, i don't expect it to be fancy. If a 7850 will do me justice at 1680x1050 or 1920x1200, then I will be fine, low shadows and sacrificing some AA is OK with me. I just want around 40 fps if that's not a long shot =\ . I just need something until around 2014, by then i should have around a few thousand more to spend. But I need something to bide me over until then :)

Also, these are the parts I plan to purchase. As I am planning to build it on my own, I am not sure as to if I have all the necessary parts I would need. If there is anything missing from the list i will make below that i will require please do let me know. (besides the hdd) So far these are the things i plan to purchase.

1.processor
2.motherboard
3.graphics card
4.Ram
5.optical drive
6.case
7.case fans
8.power supply

If you have the money for an HD 7850, you might as well bump up to an HD 7870 or GTX 660. Those are better cards for about $30 more. And I second the i5.

Thank you for the suggestion, as it turns out its only 10$ more, plus with everything added up its still 90$ under my budget, (including the gtx 660)
would the evga version be good?

The current i3 and i5 Ivy bridge processors get discontinued in a few months

The AMD FX platform is going to remain current till near the end of 2014 with AMD guaranteeing another generation of processors will be available to plug in to the exact same motherboard .

The FX 63 is a weaker cpu than the intel 3570k , but this wont make any difference when gaming . The limitation will be the graphics card if you are playing at 1080p and want good image details .
Buying the FX makes sense because you then have more money available to spend on a better graphics card
The best bang for gaming buck is the FX 6300 and a 7950

Really?

the only time the intels pull ahead is if you play at low resolutions and turn down image details

As soon as you play at the kind of settings a gamer actually wants to play at then the AMD matches or outperforms the intel

I do not want to try over clocking yet, as I am still fairly new to this and have never tried so before, plus that would require getting a good cooler. I choose the i5 3570k because it performs almost as well as the i7 2600k and i7 3770k in gaming, while outperforming some of the older i7 versions. Plus it has turbo boost to 3.8ghz, which is useful. Anyways thanks everyone! Now all i have to do is worry about if I should just wait a few months until Haswell, or buy the parts later in November. Thanks for your thoughts and time, i was figuring just buying a prebuilt one, but after seeing the far lower prices of doing it yourself, I will just go with that. Besides it has been quite a while since iv completed a puzzle =)

for some reason the links you posted are not working for me =\
but seeing as i do have some budget money left even with the i5, i might consider buying a radeon 7950. As of now thanks agent death and the site he showed, plus with my own little hunting iv managed to find everything added up to 689$ still under 100$ of my budget. The 7950 cost 100$ more then the gtx 660, which makes the total cost around 789$ still under my budget. So everything is well, thanks everyone, I managed to put everything together now =)

edit: saw some benchmarks and for 100$ less then the i5 the 6300 does in fact pack a punch, losing just a few fps behind the i5, very impressive I have to say. If I don't get this I will 100% recommend this to my friend who is shifting to pc gaming and has a much tighter budget than me. =) tho it does use alot of power.

Well, if you're just looking for gaming performance, the i3-3220 consistently beats the FX-6300 for $10 less and half the wattage/heat.

I am currently using a i3, tho just a laptop one, so going from a i3 to a better i3 doesn't really seem like much of an upgrade :) However since the i5 is the best performing processor under my budget its the one I am going to go for. a i5 with a radeon 7950, which pretty much consumes my whole budget, and should perform good enough i hope.

Lucky you! I will be getting a 3930k and a 7970. Hard Luck :p but I won't have money for ANYTHING (Including upgrades) For 4~5 years. LOL You win? xD.
