What model PSU do you have?

A hd 7750 should be fine. ( only 8W more than the 8400 ) Cannot guarantee though it will work with your mobo ; it probably will, but no guarantee.

Fine with only 18Amps on the 12V rail? I think not. That'd be really pushing it. We need more info on that PSU before saying if it can handle the load.

I agree, 19A is adviced. Only saw a lot of Addicts, Experts and even a Moderator advising a 7750 for a 16A one, so i guess 18A is pushing it, but can be done.

Can be done and is a good idea (even if being recommended) are two totally different things. PSUs degrade over time (especially when they are being pushed hard) and many people don't account for this in their recommendations.

16Amps might not be too bad for a 7750, but it does not leave any stretching room and I question the longevity of that system.

True and i think you are right actually. I recently adviced against it to a guy running a 18 or 19A psu because of what you say.

Only got a lot of people saying ( the experts etc ) that it could be done, so they turned me over i guess :(  :p

I'm running a 6670 on a 400w PSU, +12v 10a = 120watts (Dual Rail). Never had some issue.

6670 TDP - 66w
7750 TDP - 55w

_____________
I have a small question, I think Mobo's are using +3.5v/+5v Rail?

Can you tell me your PSU model?

Also, motherboards do use some 3.3V and 5V. As to how much, I'm not sure. I've read that motherboards tend to use 20-40W of power, but I'm not sure of the ratio of voltages that are involved and I'm not even sure of how well that applies to current motherboards.

Thanks for the info.

PSU Name is 3zone, some Korean OEM PSU.

+3.3v - 28a
+5v - 35a
+12v1 - 10a
+12v2 - 10a.

3.3v + 5v = 267

12v1 + 12v2 = 240w

I think i have enough power for the 6670.

Two 10Amp rails should be plenty. I was saying earlier that I don't think that a single 16Amp rail (or multiple rails that total 16Amps r less) or worse is very reasonable. Two 10Amp rails shouldn't have any trouble so long as the CPU and graphics aren't sharing a single rail.

I'm pretty sure that the 7750 uses less power than the 6670. I find severe fault with your recommendation reasoning, mohit9206.

that psu is more than enough to run hd6670.. dont try hd7750 though coz your amps are low

I just looked at some other forums that I'm talking in and it happens a few times in them too. It's probably just more proof that Tom's is a buggy website.

Maybe different servers ? Is that possible, just a wild guess, don't know how those work, but i would assume they use some sort of central time. What ever.

Or that flux capacitor laying around in the corner isn't broke at all.

I suppose that it's possible, but I don't know for sure.

lol i forgot 7750 uses less power than 6670 coz i thought more powerful= more power consumption.. anyways sorry for incorrect post :)

More performance doesn't necessarily mean higher power consumption :)

The 7750 is your best option... However, I recommend getting a new PSU. There are $30-40 PSUs that would be great.
September 5, 2012 10:26:00 AM

in here hd 6670 is like $120 and hd 7750 $200
a c 86 U Graphics card
September 5, 2012 12:43:16 PM

7750 is around $100-130 the the 6670 is $65-100 (wider price range by percentage because that's including the cheaper DDR3 version and the more expensive GDDR5 version) in the USA. Those are newegg.com prices.

tigerdirect.com has the 6670 at $60 to $110 and the 7750 at $100 to $130.
amazon has the 6670 at around $70 to $160, but no one in their right mind would buy any 6670 near that end price in the USA.

Where do you live and what store are you buying from that prices are so high?

Someone from here has already done that, same SMPS, so I'm doing the same, following his steps basically.

"so I'm doing the same, following his steps basically" lets hope not into the smoking grave . . .

That it is running now it isn't said that it will run for a long time. You could be lucky, you could be not, who knows.
Just don't start crying when the magic smoke escapes . . .

The 6450 is about twice as fast as the 5450.

but is it faster than 8600gt

The 6450 is a little faster than the 8600 GT GDDR3 and is more comparable to the 8600 GTS in performance.
