Hey guys, I'm wanting to essentially build a new PC from the ground up. The system I'm looking to upgrade is about 3-4 years old and has had some upgrades along the way. It has a GTX560, 8GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Athlon II X3 Rana, 7200rpm WD HDD, all in an Antec 900 case. I play a lot of Battlefield 3 and will probably be buying the next release in this game genre that I like, so I'll want some 'future proofing' in this build as well.
Approximate Purchase Date: Christmas
Budget Range: Under $1,000, before rebates
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, watching movies, surfing the web, some excel/word/quickbooks/Creative Solutions Accounting type programs.
Are you buying a monitor: No, I will probably be using my 32" Samsung TV that I have been using (at least for now)
Parts to Upgrade: Everything in the tower; I'm considering the idea of using an SSD to store the OS and some programs, and an HDD to store everything else. I have this setup on my laptop and love it.
Do you need to buy OS: No; I can reinstall my current copy of Windows 7 from the current build. It is the 64-bit version.
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com
Location: Monroe, LA. We have a Best Buy, that's pretty much it as far as computer parts.
Parts Preferences: I definitely want an NVidia graphics card.
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080
Additional Comments: I want a no-nonsense case. Something that cools well, preferably has a plexiglass window, but no LED's. Sort of a stealth look or an industrial look, with just that subtle hint that it's not an off-the-shelf PC. Most importantly are the guts of it though- good airflow/ductwork, good cable management.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I wish I'd gone with an ASUS mobo to start with instead of my MSI mobo; starting to have some BSOD RAM issues when gaming, my cases power button is getting finicky. Time to upgrade to the latest and greatest (that I can afford)!
