Even though the manual says maximum memory is 192megs can I put a 256 meg module in my Thinkpad 1260 model 1161-260?

I have seen generic 256 meg 144 pin pc-100 for notebooks recently and wish to upgrade

i do not belive you should it might work for a while but in the long run you will experience memory erros, locking up, and other verrious types of errors. Also it might not even see 256mb

No, if the manufacturer's webpage says 192MB is the limit, then that's the limit. The BIOS won't recognize more than that.

But, if that's old info, perhaps they just didn't have larger than 64MB sticks then, and you'll actually be able to use more than that.
