Hello,

So I am trying to build a gaming desktop and I am new at this. I have taken advice from others and this is what I have for a complete build:

Corsair Builder Series CX 500 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX500) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092ML0MY/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB PCI-E Video Card (100315L) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047ZGIUK/ref=ox_sc_a...)

AMD FX-4170 4.2GHz Quad-Core Socket AM3+ CPU with AMD Virtualization Technology - FD4170FRGUBOX (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0074J7ITG/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm Blue LED Computer Case Fan (R4-L2R-20AC-GP) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026ZPFCK/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Cooler Master Elite 430 - Mid Tower Computer Case with All-Black Interior (RC-430-KWN1) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O8J11E/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (Full) System Builder DVD 1 Pack

Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive (Black) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0057FRTPW/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Western Digital 1 TB WD Blue SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0088PUEPK/ref=ox_sc_a...)

Kingston Technology HyperX 8 GB (2x4 GB Modules) 1600 MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Kit (PC3 12800) 240-Pin SDRAM KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037TO5C0/ref=ox_sc_a...)

GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056G10WK/ref=ox_sc_a...)

I am curious if I have everything needed to have a fully functioning desktop after I purchase all this. Are all the parts compatible and do/should I make any adjustments? I play games on occasion- playing Diablo currently. I would like to stay around this price range. Any advice or confirmation would be appreciated, thanks.

that's a great rig you built there sir, you should be fine playing diablo with those, even bf3, or other latest games.

Thanks. I think I have everything and it all looks good on paper, but I am pretty paranoid since this is my first build and I want to make sure I have everything and it all works well together.

That Kingston RAM is rated at 1.65V, make sure it's compatible with the motherboard voltage requirements (check the QVL from your vendor's website).

You don't need the extra case fans. The Radeon 6870 and 7850 are better GPUs in the sub-$200 range than the 6850 is.

Thank you for your response. I checked the website and it says it is compatible, thank goodness since I did not catch that. I have also removed the extra case fan......thinking about the Radeon 6870.

What do you do aside from gaming? Another option would be an i3 instead of your 4170.

I'd personally go for an i3-3220 myself but the FX-4170 isn't too bad for the price.
