I am looking at the 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 for my D70. Is the D or G series
better or is there no difference? I realize that there are better, faster
lenses out there, but this one is more in my price range. I had considered
the 70-300, but think I would prefer a lense that I can keep on the camera
the majority of the time.

I originally purchased the 70-300G lens. I returned the lens and purchased
the 70-300ED lens. I quality is better and it also has an f stop ring,
which the G lens does not have.

I used a Nikon 70-300G lens on my Fuji S2pro. I was really disappointed in
the image quality and sold it soon afterwards. I had no problems with the
lack of aperture ring, since the camera allowed this to be controlled via
the command wheels. My advice would be to save up and get the ED lens as
suggested by the previous poster.
