1500 Gaming Setup

Aeyo .o/
This is my first time building a computer, and I've been having a hard time picking out parts and being happy with them here's the list:
Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: N/A

Budget Range: 1500 MAX including Input Devices/Monitor

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Streaming movies, Internet

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: ALL of them. x3

Do you need to buy OS: Yes. I hate Windows 8 with a passion.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: Paint Lick, Kentucky, USA

Parts Preferences: Having trouble deciding between the 2500k and the 3570k. I don't think the sandy bridge is that much faster and I know sandy bridge overclocks cooler. (what I've heard)

Overclocking: Absolutely on the CPU, maybe a tiny bit on anything else I can manage.

SLI or Crossfire: Here's where I need a little help. I can't decide weather to cut down my price and get a GTX 660 normal (non ti) and then go for a 256gig SSD (Will get one later anyway) and SLI later, or get a GTX 670 and get the caviar blue 500gig and get an ssd/SLI later. (SLI'd 670's. overkill much? xD thus the 850w psu)

Your Monitor Resolution: I dunno, refer to parts list for a monitor (at bottom)

Additional Comments: I like the corsair 300r windowed case because of the huge side panel window, an it looks sleek and roomy.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: running a 200 laptop from a couple years ago. crashes all the time/text turns rainbow/random windows blue screens/super freaking slow, runs minecraft on all minimum settings with ~5 FPS, combat Arms at about 15 on minimum settings (not gonna buy a game until I can actually play it xD)

And finally, here are the parts I have chosen. (I'm getting the Keyboard and maybe the mouse for christmas, til then using my old 20$ logitech kit)

please try to lower the price as much as you can without lowering performance if possible, keeping in mind I may need enough wattage to SLI 670's with a little breathing room. So yeah. thanks for your input. If that link doesn't work, tell me and I'll fix it.
EDIT: Also, this laptops CPU randomly reaches like 120 degrees Celsius idle, then around 80 C when playing CA/ while having multiple windows open, and, I've heard this is an Issue with NEXON but my combat arms randomly crashes. No error message, it just closes out and I have to hard reboot to get any computer response. SUPER annoying to be 50 and 15 almost the end of a round and randomly crash, takes me 20 minutes to get it running again, then it crashes anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours of gameplay, usually around 15 minutes. Gave up playing any games but in browser games till I get this computer running.

More about 1500 gaming setup
  1. http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/538638.aspx here's the tut I used to create a public wishlist you can see w/out logging into newegg.
  2. Can't see the build ....
  3. Get the GTX 670 and a Caviar Black or Blue HDD.. you can get a SSD some other day
  4. You can't see it? What happens when you click it? thanks for your input
  5. We get a link telling us HOW TO make a "wishlist"
  6. dont bother with a 300R window. the window does nothing and the holes on the window just look terrible. but that is opinionated

    either way, i wouldnt get a 300R

oh and if you are playing combat arms with this rig, get a cheaper system. its going to go to waste this way

    id get this system
    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/m2TV

-please overclock the ram. doesnt provide much performance increase but you can easily achieve it. go look at what people got in the newegg reviews
-much easier to add a hard drive to a system than adding a SSD to a system in the future since you dont need to reinstall windows and reinstall everything
-i use seagate but you are welcome to switch to WD
-750w is enough for SLI no problem

monitor. last day to get it

  7. I plan on playing BF3 and Crysis 2, maybe some borderlands 2 as well, not just combat arms xD I'll pass on the monitor, I'll upgrade from the one I have chosen later on, as well as I second 670 and an SSD. soo yeah. I know 750 is enough, but I want some breathing room, and that PSU was recommended to me by someone I trust. Looks great, too. Going for a gunmetal/blue color scheme. ALSO, found a FTW 670 FOR 360! W0W, buying it TODAY. Saw the gigabyte 670 last week for 350, back up to 399 now :c
  8. well if you are using anything larger than a 750 for SLI 670s, its overkill. they barely draw power

ftw sucks. dont bother. its so overrated its not even funny

my gigabyte had coil whine. not fun
  9. Ayn suggestions on a less than 100 dollar case, preferable with a side panel?
  10. 1: Here's a case that looks okay, will it fit a EVGA FTW 670? (Has the 680 PCB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196
2: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=25586467 does this link work? (parts list) if not I'll do it manually.
3: Any way I could get the above case in blue ? :/
  11. The FTW is 360 bucks and has great reviews, and I think it looks really nice.
  12. I'm gonna give a huge list of cases here in a minute. I really need blue tho. MAYBE green, but green is hard to work with because so little options. orange would be cool, but I'm going for a cold look.

    EDIT: Here's the case list

    5: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112238

can any of those fit the 680 pcb? which do you guys think is best?
  13. i dont give a dam about the reviews. they are pretty much meaningless unless they prove in terms of a benchmark that it is superior

so what if the ftw has a 680 pcb? so does the gigabyte. and the fact that a msi uses a custom pcb (which is more superior since they use higher grade caps and components) means its even better and will cool better than a ftw

open coolers pretty much always win against closed coolers

it looks nice but isnt that great

dude, black case + black motherboard + blue video card = its blue themed.
  14. dude, it's 360 bucks, how can I pass it up? I'd buy it no matter what model it is, It's like 70 bucks cheaper than all the other 670s atm.
  15. unless it had dreadful reviews. also, will this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129088 fit the 680 PCB?
  16. *ahem*
Why is the FTW Overrated? I've never heard anything about it xD The specs looked good, its overclocked, and it consumes very little power, and it's 360$!

dude, msi is 359.99 after MIR and will perform a lot better

as i said, use a different case. the df series are rather old. newer case designs have gromments, usb3, and generally a better layout

there is always these fanboys that run around saying its the best. not to mention the hype behind them.

the specs are good but the msi is even better, consumes the same power, and is just as much. msi also comes with overvolting but it may damage your card if you are not careful about it. it lets you push in more power to your video card for higher overclocks. no other 670 can do that
  20. A non-reference 670 is going to be a ton cooler than a reference one, i'd go for the MSI in a heartbeat over the EVGA.
  21. the ftw is technically non-reference but still a reference card since it uses a 680 cooler and pcb
  22. Toms forums is very racist when it comes to reference or non-reference cards. At 360 i'd go with the FTW from EVGA but then again i am a huge EVGA fanboy so its really just my opinion. And as bigtroll has stated the DF case is an old design thats been around for quite some time but, in the great scheme of things its not a bad case. Though if your in that neighborhood, the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129178&Tpk=antec%201100 thats a pretty sweet case.
