Hello,
I can't get my laptop to boot. f2 or f12 are the only keys that respond and when it trys to boot, it ends up asking for a boot disk? In the setup utility menu it still looks like the hard drive is there. There is an alpha numeric string next to hdd/ssd.

A hard drive can fail yet still be detected by the BIOS if it's still connected properly. You need to test it with DOS diagnostic software which runs from a bootable CD, such as "SeaTools for DOS" (it tests any drive make). Download the ISO CD-image: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

Then install "IMGBurn" & use it to create a CD from the SeaTools ISO file: http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Now boot your laptop off that CD and "SeaTools" will open. Select the laptop's hard drive then choose the long test.
