Newbie ATA100 Question

[Patience with a newbie please. This is my first homebuilt....]

I have a WD 7200RPM 40GB drive on a Gigabyte GA-7DXR board. SiSoft Sandra utilities are benchmarking this drive at the same speed as a 30GB 7200RPM ATA/66 config. So I'm wondering if I've got the ATA/100 set up correctly.

The VIA IDE util thats on Gigabyte's web site shows the drive in ATA/100 mode.

Are the SiSoft untilities accurate? Are there other things I could/should be doing to get the max performance out of this drive?

Thanks.

Jim

If you're talking about the sustained transfer rate, that should probably be normal. The sustained transfer rate of HDDs is still around an "ATA40" speed - not even close to ATA66 or 100.

Check out HDTach. That will give you a much better idea of the actual drive performance.

did you install IDE driver of VIA?
the 4in1 is very good and it has the IDE driver, so look for the latest version at VIA site and download it

for latest chipset driver defination go to www.via.com.tw

also check your cable, you can be sure of ATA/100 after the post operation when you turn your computer on
