What GPU do you think I should run? Thanks in advance

This is my current build and I am considering switching out my graphics card to 1 x Diamond Radeon HD7970 3GB model.

CPU: AMD FX-8120 OC @ 4.0GHz
Cooler: Hyper 212+ W/Push+Pull Stock Cooler Master Fans @ 50+ CFM's
MoBo: MSi 990XA-GD55
RAM: Corsair Vengaence Black 4GBx2DIMM @ 1600
Storage: 2TB Seagate Barracuda @ 7200RPM's
Graphics: 2xASUS Radeon HD7850 2GB model
Fans: 6xEnermax 120mm Blue LED Fans @ 50+ CFM's
PSU: Antec 750W Greenwatts

So, should I not run the Crossfire with the dual 7850's? Or should I get the 7970 that I'm looking at? Or is there some sort of bottleneck that I'm missing?

I'm getting 40FPS +/- in MW3 offline on a 1080p screen? I would think these $220 cards could push harder than that? I was thinking I might get better results with the 7970? Maybe? Any comments that can help me out are greatly appreciated.

Bump? Maybe even wrong section? Just need to know if my 2 CF'd cards should be running better. Cause now I took out one card and its running the same. But, in the CCC I did set the option to CF . . .

Have you downloaded this http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/crossfirex...
Because you should be getting much higher than 40 fps. 7850 cf should be a good bit better than a 7970. I don't know much about cf setup I've never done one but I did look at some benchmarks and something is definitely not right with your results.

Yeah, I got all the files I could/should . . . I think . . . And for some reason the cf runs the same even if I run just one 7850 it runs the same. I was told it would be a 80%-90% improvement though . . . Should I get a SSD maybe?

what settings are you running at and have you enabled crossfire in the start menu?

SSDs don't effect framerates; they merely effect load times.

As for those cards, a 7970 isn't gonna make that much of a difference...especially in a game such as MW3. That game isn't very taxing. I easily get 60 fps on my old lappy. Buying a 7970 would be a waste of money. Sure, it's a powerful card, but it just isn't needed if all you're playing is MW3.

Make sure you have downloaded all AMDs latest drivers. I'm not for certain, but I don't believe this game will utilize crossfire technology. I recommend you just run one card. If needed, give it a bit of an overclock.

Settings are on the highest they can be all the way around.
I don't know what menu you're talking about, if you're talking about the CCC menu, than yes I did.

Figured as much with the SSD . . .
I do play BF3 and others, I just haven't testedit on these cards yet. And it isn't about the money, I would be returning the cards for a refund at full price so 220 for each, than I would just buy the 7970 if you guys think it would work better than the dual 7850's.
And yes, I do have the latest drivers . . .

And as for the crossfire bridge . . . Yes . . . Yes I did, and there is only one place for the bridge.

I'm about to test one card (7850) in BF3 with maxed settings offline.

Than do both cards to see the difference . . .

I don't think so. On your mobo do you have the cards installed on the two blue pci-e 2.0 slots?

Yes, they are in those slots, but, one sec, I'm about to find out what one card does in BF3 with maxed settings.

Ohk, first mission of the campaign in BF3 maxed out settings with one card is getting me 55-90 FPS not counting the videos that run really high FPS. So . . . Why the heck does MW3 only do like 40-50 FPS and BF3 a way more graphically intense game do higher FPS??? WTHeck . . . Going to try the Crossfire on BF3 maxed :p

that is nothing short of odd.... MW3 runs like butter on CFX 6870's .... never drops from sync cap...

Well, for some reason, it runs at like 40 FPS which isn't the worst I've ever seen. But than now and again it'll lock up and drop to like 0-5 FPS and than jump back to normal. That's only like every now and than. Maybe once or twice a half hour.

But yes, that is really really weird . . . You would think it would do better in MW3 than in BF3 . . .

So, now the last question . . . Is the 7970 better than two 7850's? Cause if it is, I'm going to get the 7970 for cheaper than the cost of the two 7850's.

Hmmm, with CFX of the two 7850's I'm getting 90-150 FPS in BF3. Bout right? Think I can do the same or better with the 7970?

With a 7970, you're looking at frame rates at around 75-110 fps.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-ghz-...

I'd personally return the HD 7850s, get a full refund, and then grab a HD 7970. Assuming you can get a full refund and a decent deal on the 7970, you should be able to save some cash. Then you could test the 7970 and see if the video cards are the problem in MW3 or if it's the game itself screwing up. Might just need a fresh re-installation.

If I return them I get $471.88 back from both cards . . . Than I can buy the 7970 for $461.17. So yeah, worth it to at least test out the theory of it. See where it gets me, see if it goes smoother than one 7850, if it isn't enough of a increase I might as well just return it and get 1 7850 and a nice SSD while I'm at it :p

Very good finds, sadly, I don't have a method to pay online, lol. So, I can just do a price check through Fry's with the newegg price you gave me :D  Thanks.

Although . . . If I did go through newegg I would pay 409.99 and get a four free games coupon for:
- FarCry3
- HitMan
- Sleeping Dogs
- Medal of Honor WarFighter Limited Edition

That is a dang good idea . . . I'm young and oblivious, I never would have thought of that :p
