I'm helping a friend with a build. He specifically wants to play BF3 in 3D. Have never used 3D, so unsure of any specific requirements, for 3D, apart obviously from 3D monitor.
He was thinking of a GTX690 for GPU. My initial thought would be over the top, for what is basically 1080p, but is it. Also seem to remember something about SLi, being a benefit, for 3D, but that may be my memory playing tricks.

For the best luck, your monitor & video card (even game) should both be certified 3D by the same company. Nvidia and AMD each have their standards, though you can mix and match with some tinkering, but 3D gaming is still a niche at best. Nvidia is uses the more expensive active tech but has been at it longer. ATI has the cheaper passive tech and less officially supported games. As for the card, consider you are basically are running twice the resolution. A 690 sounds like the perfect card to me.
