Installing gtx 670 on dell dimension 9200

I have a Dell Dimension 9200 with a Nvidia Geforce 7900 GS graphics card with a PCI Express x16 Bus and was thinking of replacing it with a Nvidia GTX 670. I was wondering if a GTX 670 would be compatiable with the 9200 or would I be better trying another graphics card?

More about installing dell dimension 9200
  1. Better off buying a new system, since the new card would require a new PSU, and the CPU will bottleneck a lot.
  2. Its not worth it to put that 670 in a Dimension 9200. Better off building a partially new system with the money you have for a 670.

I have 2 Dell Dimension 9200 both running Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 2.93GHz/8M/1066MHz Socket LGA775 Processor SLACP, 8gb ddr2 800 ram. One has a Zotac gtx 650 and the other has a Zotac gtx 760 (the Zotac 760 needed a PS upgrade), 2 160gb HD in raid 0. I have purchased some ddr2 1066 ram in the hopes that it will work. as of 12-22-13 I have the latest bios installed. These machines run very well and I have less than $500 invested total. One Machine is running win7 Ultimate and the other runs Win8 Pro.

I have a Dimension E520 basically a Mini tower version of the 9200. I'm still upgrading mine and overclocking it too with QX6800. I made a Tutorial about this "Overclocking Dell BTX Computers" if you still have these it might be of interest to you.

I have since moved on, I put the 2 Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 2.93GHz/8M/1066MHz Socket LGA775 Processor SLACP into 2 Dell XPS 720's both have 16gb ddr2 1066, 2x Zotac 760's, 4x 160gb raptors, they are decent. and since then just started buying new gear. Went back to AMD for the bang for the buck builds. less headaches.
  6. XPS 720s very nice. I took on the O/C Dell project because I wanted a challenge. BTW What did you do with the 9200s? Software overclock costs nothing. You already have the hardware.
