Now I know that these are all old cards but i'm happy with then so I have a GeForce FX 5200 8x and am upgrading to a Quadro4 700 XGL 4x. I went to www.gpureview.com and compared the two cards and the quadro has better core clock speeds, memory clock speeds, texture fill rate, everything. But the quadro is also 4x. Does having a 4x make it worse than the geforce's 8x?

Unless your doing some type of CAD work the Quadro will likely be slower than the FX5200. The Quadro drivers are terrible for gaming.

As for AGP, 4x has a transfer rate of 1066MB/s and 8x is 2133MB/s. I wouldn't think that either of these cards would be able to fully saturate the bandwidth of 4x.

Back then (GeForce FX era) the use of AGP 8x didn't really increase speeds. However, GeForce 6 and 7 cards do make use of AGP 8x. If I were you, I would get an AGP GeForce 6 off of eBay for cheap. I will also have to agree with ish416.
