Okay, so I just bought the Amd FX-8150 and Nvidia 690. The problem is when im trying to launch some games, the computer just turns black and then reboots everything and I end up in bios. This is not happening to every game I start but some (Mw3, TW:2 etc) I have never had this problem before so I really need help to fix it!! :(

I do not get any error messages or anything when its restarting, also I hardly doubt it is the 8150!

Solution
The power draw on the 2 core athlon is less than the 8150... It is still most likely your powersupply having the issues...
Pairing a GTX 690 with an 2 core Athlon is like putting a Hemi in a go-cart. A GTX 690 will be bottlenecked by both the 8150 and the 2 core athlon. The point of a GTX 690 is not so it will 'run fine' it is so it will run superior and excellent.

There could be a problem wih your PSU... It either is poor quality or is faulty.
It could also be that you have placed the 690 on a single 12V rail. Try switching up the PCIE power on your GPU. Which PSU are you using?

Also, the 8150 is a poor match with the 690. It will bottleneck the GPU. Mind you the 8150 isn't likely causing the problem you are experiencing, I'm just pointing out that you'd be better off with a Phenom II. It's just that the 8150 will not perform well with high end SLI rigs like a GTX 690.

This Scenario is in my A+ book. The book states it is the power supply. Probably why everyone here says it is the power supply.

I'll just trow out some of the thing I have

AMD FX-8150
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 690
10GB ram 1333Mhz
Asrock Fatal1ty 990fx professional motherboard

My PSU is : Chieftec Nitro Series BPS-1200 1200W PSU (http://www.chieftec.eu/en/psus/nitro-85-series/bps-1200c.html)
Its also certified with 80+ bronze

I use 2 x pci-e cable (6+2 pin) (one for each 8 pin on the 690), even though I think one of the (6+2 pin) does not fit properly, it might be broken.

You have 50 amps on each of the two 12 rails.
There is an 8-pin 4+4 power supply for the CPU on that mobo.
Do you have the 8 pin 4+4 power plugged into the mobo?
Make sure the 8 pin mobo connector 4+4 and the 8 pin PCIe 6+2 connectors are not mixed. That might explain an ill fitting connector.
Ensure that you are pulling one 6+2 off of one 12 v rail and the other 6+2 off of the 12 v rail. You have 6 x 6+2 connectors so one that fits poorly can be pulled and you could put on another.
If it still doesn't work your PSU is likely faulty.

I would start there. :ange:

Sounds like your 690 isnt getting the power it wants and reboots.

I removed the 8150 and switched it to the old 2core athlon (still having the 690 as gpu) and the shutdown disappeared when launching the games, so it looks like its the cpu's fault and not the gpu!! :D I will still use the 8150 and just not play MW3, everything else works totally fine, bf3, LoL or some other *** works. :bounce: Since the problem has been found out, and the subject is the cpu, there is no longer a point having this thread about the 690 anymore.
Thanks for the help every1!!^^

I will swich to my other psu then, and see if I get the same problem :D I dont think I can afford a intel processor yet, but in that case, which intel processor will remove the bottleneck from the 690?!

Im am still not sure about the psu, because I can play BF3 on ultra for so many hours I want (normally not more than 5 hours max) and my pc does not shut down no matter what... looks like mw3 is the only game "drawing" all my power^^ :p

BF3 uses a lot of CPU. The FX 8150 uses a lot of power.

How did you afford a GTX 690 and can't afford an Intel CPU? You could have gotten a GTX 680 for half the price and been able to buy an i7 CPU, motherboard, and 16 Gb of RAM with the money saved.

Any i5 and up intel Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge will eliminate the CPU bottleneck.

Well, the 690 and 8150 was kind of a birthday present so I didnt have much of a choice, I wanted the best of both if I must say, but I dont believe the 8150 bottleneck it that much.. will get i7 in the future anyway, but watercooling is first priority^^

But yeah, I will try out different psu, to see if the problem continues! :)
