So, I know I posted a thread yesterday about a budget upgrade from my current 8800GT. I thought I had struck gold with a $100 HD 6870 nearby. Unfortunately, when I contacted the guy, he had already put it on hold for another guy. I was kicking myself. I found a $100 6850 nearby, and I was wondering whether or not, dollar for dollar, this would be a worthwhile upgrade from my 8800GT. It looks like the card goes from $150-190 retail.

See, I want to pinch pennies, but at the same time, I don't want to spend $100+ just to find out that I might as well have kept my 8800GT (which is a solid card, just very dated).

The 6850 looks comparable to the 6870, albeit a tad slower from the theoretical comparisons I've seen. Does anyone have any experience running this card? If so, what kind of settings are you getting on present-day, graphics intensive games?

Thanks a lot.

P.S., there's an HD 6670 at Best Buy and I have a gift card. It's $120. I know this probably won't hold a candle to the 6850, but does anyone think that it'd be a worthwhile upgrade over the 8800GT for that price?

Keep your BestBuy gift card for something else. The 6670 is on par with the 8800GT.

So if the 6670 is on par with the 8800GT, then you can see how the 6850 will perform.

Here's a chart that shows GPUs on tiers. And what would "present-day, graphics intensive games"

I've got a GTX460 256-bit, which runs about as fast as that 6850. So I might be able to give you some information on how quick the card will be in any given game. I've got quite a few and wouldn't mind testing them for you.
