The Rosewill Capstone 450W has 2 8-pin PCI-E connectors, will this work for the 7870 which has 2 6-pin PCI-E connectors?

The 6 pin connector has 2 or 3 +12 volt wires and 3 ground wires. The 8 pin connector has 3 +12 volt wires and 5 ground wires. If the 8 pin is in the form of 6+2 where 2 pins are separable then yes it will fit and work without issue.

I have a PSU with 1x 6-pin and 1x 8-pin PCI-e connectors.

The GPU I have just bought requires 2 x 6-pin... Doh!

The 8-pin connector has a small plastic bridge to stop it being plugged into the 8-pin EPS socket but the 6 pins to the left line up with the 6-pin PCI socket on the GPU.

Rather than go out and buy a new PSU when the one I have has adequate power just the wrong connector. I'm thinking about cutting the plastic bridge, essentially turning the 8-pin into a 6+2. Will this work??
