Additional Comments: Went to a new bestbuy opening here in Calgary and entered a contest to win a 2000 dollar gift-card, and ended up winning it! 1000 went to the finance and now I'm left with a 1000 dollars and want to build a new computer with it. I know its not an ideal site to build a computer from, but its the situation I find myself in. Now...I haven't built a PC in a VERY long time. I don't know whats good anymore, and I'm finding it hard to build this thing on my own. I ask that you give me some advice and point me in the right direction. Any and all advise is VERY appreciated.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Old laptop just don't cut the mustard anymore!

So this is what I've done so far:

This puts me at just about the 1000 price tag im looking to shoot for and still need a power supply, psu cooling and soundcard (i think i still need one of these...again, haven't built in a long time.) I'm looking to fun games on ultra with AT LEAST 50-60fps. So if i've gone WAY overboard with this build, lets buy cheaper stuff! Again, any and ALL info is much obliged.

That build ain't gonna cut it, everything is overkilled, and the gpu is just crap by today's standards at that price imo, i made a build, it might not be perfect but it looks like its better than the current one you have.

Will that card be supported by everything thats in there? Seems liek the cpu will bottleneck it. Again, haven't built in awhile...so I'm probably wrong.

I just mean the whole thing seems light to support a gpu like that. BUT, I will do some research and check er out. Thank you SO much for the info. Also, why the 2 hard-drives? Wouldn't 1 160g solid state be better? I have a 2tb external sitting around here somewhere if that changes anything.

It is not light at all lol, people still use 7970 on 955, and they can't complain, as long as u play on 1080p and crank everything up, it should not be a problem, if you have an external drive, then remove the HDD and get yourself a better SSD, a 240gb+ should be enough for boot and some games.
