What soundcards are on the horizon?

A few newsgroups and scattered articles on the net states that Hercules are working on a new GTXP type soundcard and I was wondering if anyone has heard about it. I couldn't find a release date anywhere, nor have I found any specs. Also, are there other cards in the Audigy, GTXP genre that you recommend, future releases or already released? BTW,I do not like Audigy's performance so don't bash or recommend it. It's just a personal opinion.

I haven't heard much either except that it's going to sport 6.1 channel surround sound....too bad I've lost faith in Hercules.

If the flash banner is what you are refering to, that's just the new driver update for the standard GTXP. It allows for use of the headphone jack as the sixth channel in 6.1 mode.

I've also heard about a new GTXP, but no details yet.

I am not mainly interested in games, so quoting gamespot doesn't change my mind. As I said I do not care much for Audigy although it is a good card for the general user, and comes with a great bundle and low latency ASIO, it does not support true 24bit/96KHz and has problems with the (STANDARD!!) 16/44.1 opting for 48KHz instead. I use a lot of obscure audio apps that do not like Audigy. Cards from TerraTec, M-Audio, Hoontech, Echo etc., offer true 24/96 performance (record and playback) for roughly the same price. I was interested in whether Hercules (BTW I prefer GTXP over Live anyday) would cater to hobby musicians and feature ASIO and 24/96 in addition to 3D sound as it would make it a really interesting to me. I don't mean to be rude I am just stating my opinion and I am still bitter at Cnet/Zdnet for closing the best of the two game sites :(

On paper the nForce integrated audio looks like the most powerfull solution we're going to see for a while. Since we're looking toward the future, paper is the best we can do righ now. There should be some comprehensive test soon as this thing is finally entering production.

Back to you Tom...

I'm curious, just by looking at the specs (I haven't seen the NForce sound specs), is the Audigy comparable to the NForce's integrated sound?

The nForce has more computational power for the sound chip. Whether or not this creates better sound involves many factors beyond the scope of most hardware enthusiast.

sounds like your looking for a professional sound card and you might wanna check out your local sound shop. Expect to spend big $$$ for that sound card your looking for :)

No actually, the problem is that I have expensive soundcards already, but I do not have the '3d' stuff that I need on my latest effects project, so I am looking for a card with 24/96 recording, decent ASIO and some sort of 3d 5.1(or 6.1) support as I think it would be overkill to have three cards on my machine. AFAIK there is not a card like this on the market, but as all three are "standard" nowadays it seems surprising that no one has announced a card with these specs. (Creative, of course announced it, but that doesn't mean much when it doesn't support 24/96).
