I noticed in my device manager that creative loads sb16 emulation and windows assigns it an IRQ. What is this and can I/should I disable it? Any reason to leave it enabled? The sound card is a SB Live 5.1 mp3
SB16 emulation is needed to run DOS programs with sound, including most older games, a few multimedia apps, etc. Most people NEVER use a program that needs it. Some people disable it. I leave mine enabled on the odd chance that someday I MIGHT use it!
You know those old strategy games they sell at Wall Mart, Comp USA, etc, that say "requires IBM 486 or compatable"? My wife has a few of those and they use DOS mode.
that is correct
