I'm having a lot of troubles with my current video card, which is a GeForce GTX 550 ti. It runs fine while running 3d games (currently I'm mostly playing SC2 and CS:GO). However, the main problem comes when I'm just browsing the web, or watching videos on youtube. My screen will freeze for maybe .5 to 1 second, go completely black, then return to (sometimes) normal. A little windows pop-up notification will come up saying that my graphics driver has malfunctioned, but has been successfully recovered. I mentioned that only sometimes it will return to normal, other times there will be small, yet extremely annoying, glitches in the way the desktop or browser windows are displayed (such as a glitched out scroll bar, random solid blue lines running across the favorites toolbar, and other small graphical errors). I have updated and reinstalled drivers multiple times. It first started on WinXP pro, and has continued on after installing Win7. Because of these reasons I am doubtful that the problem actually lies in the drivers, but more likely a flaw or glitch in the hardware. I have run 3d tests and the card seems to run fine with no problems at high temps.
If indeed the problem lies in the hardware, I do not have my original receipts or proof of purchase, and I did not register the GPU when I purchased it (oops). That being said, if I have to buy a new card I am trying to keep it around the $250 range. Being of limited knowledge in GPU's nowadays I did a little searching around in this price range and came up with 2 cards that seem solid, but I would like to get other opinions on which is the better card for the money if possible. Here are the two I stumbled upon:
