Gtx 460 Overheat

Hi I have a problem with my pc. Always when my gpu hits 80C it shuts down automatically why does this happen?

Intel q9400
4 gb
asus p5k green
500 gb hdd
A-Power AK 680W
Gigabyte gtx 460

But how can it handle till 80C ,why does it not shut down right away?

why don't you run MSI Afterburner and set up a custom Fan curve for your card, so that it never reaches 80C

I did I set to 100% it reached 77 and it shut down again.

then it's most definitely your power supply that can't handle the load and is going into protective mode, or just crapping out

the only other option it could be is a thermal switch on your motherboard that's shutting the system off for whatever reason, but I doubt that motherboard has such a feature

Change out that power supply. That is my recommendation. Get a nice 600W from Corsair, Antec, or Seasonic. Or PC Power & Cooling.
