Need Help unlocking My HD 6950 2GB

I was thinking about trying to unlock the shaders on my Sapphire HD 6950 2GB. i want to know how can i do this. Thx for any help received

this is the card i ordered

Keep getting this error

you are prolly gonna have to flash the card in DOS...not in windows bc its gonna keep giving you the error that the device ID doesnt match...do you know how to flash in DOS? and perform a force flash? if not here is a link to a decent guide if you have any issues let me know....this is the command for force flash "atiflash -f -p 0 BIOSNAME.rom"

also you already have a 6970 BIOS and everything right?

be carefull because u brick ur card when flashing it to a hd 6970

i don't think you can flash a non-ref 6950 specially if it is a newer one... only the first 6950s has the ability...

p.s i think you need a second GPU, to flash flash another card, not sure... i've never done it.

^^no you do not need a second gpu to flash a video card...does anyone know if the 6950 has the dual BIOS? cant remember..if so that would be very helpful here.

yes it has the dual BIOs and BIOs switch and the model i have about 97% had success with unlocking it but i'm a little wherry about the DOS

dont be wherry about the DOS flashing it is actually the correct way to do it...the same as flashing a motherboard BIOS....you cant do any harm seeing that you have the dual BIOS feature. doesnt really seem like you have any other options at this point

you dont download a "DOS" look at the link I sent you and I would do it the flashdrive method its the easiest...the link has everything you need

what part are you having trouble on? making a bootable flashdrive? or the actual flashing part? once you make the flashdrive bootable all you put on there is the atiflash and a copy of the original BIOS and a copy of the 6970 BIOS....then you boot into the flash drive and you type in "atiflash -f -p 0 6970BIOSNAME.rom" and it should flash it for you...it not too difficult

i have the bootable flash drive. do i put the whole winflash folder or just the winflash.exe

winflash is for flashing in windows i think you only put atiflash.exe the original BIOS and the 6970 BIOS on the flashdrive....here is a little better HOW to I found

got an ERROR 0FL01 and got a long consecutive beep and a black screen when i rebooted

thats not good....maybe try another 6970 BIOS...remember unlocking is not guaranteed your card could be a 6950 for a reason.

Fixed it and got it unlocked

- Forgot to uninstall drives so did that

- unlocked ROM

- switch to the second BIOs then back when i got it booted and flashed it

now have to re install the drivers

ok got the drivers and everything installed but GPU-Z still says only 1408 Shaders

you sure you flashed a 6970 BIOS? use a different program to check the shaders and do a benchmark to see if your performance improved to 6970 levels

I heard that people has less luck with the 6950 shaders enabled BIOS's but i guess it doesnt hurt to try lol seeing that you have the dual BIOS capability.
