Hello all,

I'm trying to put together a budget (although not super low budget) rig. Gaming's not the primary purpose but I hope to do some with it.

Relevant specs:
SandyBridge G540 CPU, Intel H61MH mobo
8GB ram (DDR3 12800)
450W PSU (I can upgrade this to 600W for $25 more)
Display Resolution: Not settled yet. Probably won't be 1080p. Maybe 1440x900 or thereabouts. Buuut I do photo editing so I may splurge a bit here and go IPS 1080p afterall.

The two cards I'm primarily considering are the GT620 ($65) and HD6670 with DDR3 1GB ($87). I'm leaning a little more towards the 6670 at the moment, sounds like a pretty decent card. I'm open to other suggestions too - budget is not a hard limit, I just don't want to spend too much if I can help it.

Games I play atm are Guild Wars 2, Mech Warrior Online, and some Source engine stuff. I'm not particularly concerned about high end eye candy (though it is nice), just looking for something that'll look decently good, say midrange settings, and keep a decent, preferably 30+ frame rate.

All that said-
Is the HD 6670 good enough for that? Could I even go with the GT620 and still get good performance? Or, possibly, is the 6670 too old or low end?

All suggestions welcome, but the country I'm in, prices tend to be a little higher than in the US.

Solution
I would go for a GTX550ti, prices in SK are much better for them than for the 7750. ( and is a better card anyway )

I would upgrade that psu to be more safe for future upgrades.

The 7750 is $135+ here, more commonly about $150-$160.

Not completely out of the question, but how good of a card is it?

550Ti is not always better than 7750, especially in new DirectX11 games. For 1440x900 6670 is fine, for 1080p you would appriciate a stronger GPU and I recommend 7750, unless there is a major price difference with the 550Ti.

This is an awesome list^^ Thank you for pointing it out, and for pointing me away from the GT620

I decided on the GTX550Ti. The DDR3 version of the HD 6670 is only $10-$15 cheaper here. The DDR5 version is the same price as the 1GB 550Ti.

I'm thinking I'm going to go with the 1080p IPS. It's not that expensive and the higher res would be useful for the graphics work.

The 7750 is about 50% more expensive than the 550Ti here^^; -I'm gonna call that major and just go with the 550Ti, which is the same price as the GDDR5 version of 6670. That said, I appreciate your input - if the price difference wasn't so big, I may have picked the 7750 instead.

Thank you everyone for your input!
