Wireless connection often fails with old, new router

I'm using an Actiontec PK5000 (a modem/router combo). When I started getting signal drops and severe packet loss while in the same room as the device I had a replacement sent. Went through all the steps of setting up a new device and new connection, but even with the new router I'm getting the same problem. The internet drops off for 1-5 minutes then comes back for between 30 seconds and an hour.

What's going on here? Is it a problem with my connection (I'm on a DSL line)? Or is this thing just not set up right?

Any help appreciated,

I had a second computer in my room connected via ethernet, and it only dropped off once in something like 6 hours. So it seems more reliable, but I can't say for sure it's a problem with the wireless.
