It's ~$60 over the combined $600 budget, but I wouldn't go cheaper on any component in the tower and there isn't any cheaper monitor, at least not on this site.

CPU Intel i3-3220 http://pcpartpicker.com/au/part/intel-cpu-bx80637i33220

I dont think part picker counts in http://www.msy.com.au/index.jsp

in my opinion, and most people i know who buy parts, msy is nearly always the cheapest.. it could save that $60 ;)

This looks nice but would an AMD FX4100 be a better option? Seeing as it's a Quad core and its cheaper?

No; you'd have to get a 4300, which is more expensive, to reach i3 performance. AMD has less performance per core, so even though it's a true quad, it doesn't quite reach the i3.

No. The FX-4100 would be inferior and wouldn't win unless you gave it a huge overclock in which case you'd be better off getting an AMD Trinity APU such as an A8-5600K instead anyway. For stock performance, it'd take at least an FX-4600 to truly match the i3-2120 in average gaming performance. If you want an AMD CPU build recommendation, I'd be happy to alter mine for it.

If the i3 will play/record the games that I listed at a decent FPS & Resolution, then I'm happy with whatever CPU you recommend :)

i dont want to start an amd vs intel flame war..it happen when people post that intel cpu are blaw blaw blaw better then amd.
google intel i3 vs amd fx and intel vd amd for gaming cpu. there a few reviews that toms did. if you had a new chart of cpu for games and raw power that would not bottle neck a gpu gaming card the low end system would be an i3. then the new amd cpu would be above the i3 in raw power but slower then intel i5 cpu.

I'm not quite sure of what you're trying to say. Would you mind clarifying?

Yes, the newer 4300 would outperform the i3, but the 4100 wouldn't, I never said the i3 beat the 4300...

Would the 4300 Be upgradable in the future?

Sure. There is a new AM3+ generation supposed to be coming out next year (Steamroller, AMD already told us that it will be compatible) and the next generation after that may also be compatible with AM3+ boards (Excavator, may or may not be compatible).

Even if not for them, there're the upper end FX-6300 and 8320/8350 that will get better and better as games become more multi-threaded. AM3+ has better future-upgrade potential than LGA 1155 IMO.

Alright, that's good to know! Do you think you can put a $500 AMD Build together for me?

$500 is a difficult price point to work with. The best CPU that I could work in without sacrificing the Radeon 7850 is the FX-4100. Still at least I managed to get in a good 8GB DDR3-1600 memory kit and the rest of the components are cheap, but not bad.
