Today I purchased a Hanns G HS233 monitor. However I have a problem. When I connect the monitor using the DVI dual link cable supplied the display is extremely faulty (horizontal lines). Especially noticeable when displaying black backgrounds. However the lines are noticeable on other color backgrounds as well, just to a lesser degree. Now I've gotten the picture to clear, but this is using non 120hz methods which defeats the purpose of buying the monitor in the first place.
Now, so far I've tried the following:
Connecting the new monitor to the dual link DVI port: Faulty image.
Connecting the new monitor to the single link DVI port, using a dual link cable: 120hz isn't supported, however the image is fine.
I connected my old monitor into the dual link DVI port using a VGA to DVI adapter and it worked as expected. I can't connect it using the same DVI cable, since the monitor doesn't have a DVI port.
Connecting the new monitor using a VGA to DVI adapter. This of course worked, however the 120 option isn't supported.
I connected the new monitor using the same dual link DVI cable to the dual link graphic port on that computer and it worked fine. The graphic card in my older computer is a 5770.
I've taken screen shots of the problem, but of course it only captures the computer display and not what the monitor is displaying.
If I set the monitor to use 60Hz manually, while in the dual link port with a dual link cable it doesn't fix the issue either.
General computer specifications:
OS: Windows 7 64 bit.
Graphics card: ATI HD 6850.
Processor: Intel Core I7 2600
Screen resolution: 1920 by 1080. I can't increase it regardless of DVI port/cable. This is also the recommended setting.
I've also reseated the graphic card, which didn't help at all.
I bought an HDMI cable, which does work however it doesn't support 120hz either.
The monitor uses a DVI-D cable, while my graphic card is DVI-I. However am I correct in thinking that this doesn't matter and that DVI-I is backwards compatible with DVI-D?
I really don't know what else to try, various theories have been shattered:
Cable is broken: Works in other PC.
Monitor is dodgy: Works in other PC.
DVI-I port on graphic card is dodgy: A VGA to DVI adapter fixes the picture, while connected to the exact same port.
I've tried Google, Yahoo and searching this site. Still haven't found an answer. If anyone could help it'd be greatly appreciated. Apologies if this is in the wrong sub category.
