Trying to hook up my computer to my TV with HDMI (Sound Issues)

So I'm trying to connect my computer to my TV using an HDMI cable. If I hook it straight to the TV or to my receiver, there is no audio playback. I set the sound settings in the control panel but still nothing happens. What should I try? Maybe the HDMI port on the card is messed up since sometimes it has a hard time with video playback as well.

What program? VLC does not bitstream HD audio, MPC-HC can with LAV Filters depending on your hardware.

is the TV connected before you turn on the computer?

if I stream from IE to my TV, I have to configure the sound and video settings before I start IE

No sound at all plays. Doesn't matter if I'm on a web browser or using Windows Media Player or playing a game. I'm using a GTX 295, driver 301.42 running on Windows 7 64 bit.

I don't think that card even carries audio via HDMI. No support for it.
