Can anyone think of a reason, hardware or software related, that would cause a XFX Radeon HD 6870 2gb version to stutter when viewing 1080p video or when playing a game at 1080p? Specs below
Ram: two 4gb sticks, one Kingston, one Patriot, both running at 1333mhz
PSU: 730 watts, made by Raidmax
HDD: 500gb Western Digital Green with 64mb of cache
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3
I have checked to make sure that the video card is in the PCIe x16 slot, I've tried the ram in various locations, with both sticks running or just one (tried both brands with just the one), I'm running on the latest version of Catalyst (I've tried everything from 12.4-12.8, though). Unfortunately, I do not have another GPU of similar power to test and see if it is the GPU.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Ah, side note, it's not just at 1080p, I recently acquired BF3, tried running it at 1080p with presets on ultra, lots of stuttering, did a fraps run and averaged 37 fps over 60 seconds. Turned off all eye candy, and put the resolution at 640x320, got 44 fps over a 75 second run, still stuttering the entire time.
