Modem and router?

Hello,
Comcast wants me to replace my older modem. Bought a Motorola SBG6580 w/4 ports. Configuration til now has been modem to 8-port D-Link router for various hard-wired devices in home environment. Can I retain use of 8-port D-Link with new modem? 4 not enough.

yes but you need to turn off the DHCP on the D-Link.

what is the model number of the D-Link?
