Additional Comments: I'm planning on building an HTPC running WMC 7 24/7 as an OTA 2 tuner HD DVR, and hopefully be able to use the same system to web browse, use MS Office, and occasioally edit home movies nativelly in AVCHD format. My first question is whether or not this is going to be possible an a budget of $850? Second, if it is, is the system I am proposing below work for my needs? Will I be able to overclock with the proposed low profile cooler? Any advice is welcome. I'm not new to technology but this is my first pc build from scratch.

Proposed Build:

Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155 - BX80637I53570K - $220

CPU Cooler:
Scythe SCBSK-2000 Big Shuriken 2 (Need low profile cooling for GD05 case) - $44

Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA1155 AMD CrossFireX W/HDMI,DVI Dual UEFI BIOS ATX Motherboard GA-Z77-D3H
(is this overkill for what I'm doing?) - $120

Patriot Memory 16 DDR3 1600 Extreme Performance Viper 3 Series Kit (PV316G160C9K) - $70

Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB SATA II 3.5-Inch Internal Desktop Hard Drive Retail Kit -

Crucial 64 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT064M4SSD2 - $67

Antec EarthWatts EA-650 Green 650 Watt 80 PLUS BRONZE Power Supply (I'm very flexible on this unit,
I just want something powerful enough that is pretty quiet) - $50

????? - need help with this. Will the on board graphics suffice? If not, suggestions within budget please.

Undecided, not crucial at this time. BD RW preffered but BD ROM will work, approx. $80 (suggestions???)

Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered!!!

  1. Any thoughts?

What do you think of this? Better CPU cooler, motherboard, better memory, better hard drive, better SSD, much cheaper PSU (no need for a high wattage model on this computer), and a Blu-Ray RW drive. I threw in a new case because you'd get much better CPU overclocking results with a higher airflow case and a proper CPU cooler. If you really want to use your old case, I can change the build for that, but since this new case and cooler are a mere $52 together despite both being pretty great, why not?

I think that you'd be fine on the integrated graphics (which is on the CPU die, not on the motherboard, for the LGA 1155 socket platforms), but if you want a discrete card, I could make recommendations there. I'm not sure if you'd use it or not, but I could still make recommendations if asked to do so.

I didn't include a tuner because I'm not familiar with them and don't know what to recommend or even suggest for that.
